"Demons" are souls pulled back into the living realm by one mean or other. Skilled dark magic users revive people or call back lost souls, binding them to this world with an object. Those who control the object control the demon. Demons who control their own objects are the most dangerous and malevolent of all.

"Angels" are those who are sent to destroy the demons and or re-send them to the afterlife. Depending on the type of Demon (whether they're here willfully or not) and how strong they are, that can pose a challenge.

Some demons aren't pursued because they're not a risk, or they help Angels hunt other demons.

Church is tied to Angels, but not as holy as one would think.
